TIPS ON HOW TO GET
THE BEST OUT OF THE SERVICES WE OFFER
1. Arrive on time for your appointment.
If you have specific needs or several problems ask the receptionist if you can
have a longer appointment at the time it is booked.
2. Do not ask for a visit unless
it is really impossible to go to see your doctor. We will see very sick patients
straight away if they have made the effort to come down to surgery.
3. If you need a home visit ring
as early as possible preferably before 10.30am, this helps the doctors plan their
rounds. If you have a dog, please keep it in a separate room when the doctor calls.
If it is dark please put the outside light on.
4. Please do not interrupt your doctor
in the middle of a surgery. If you need advice give the receptionist your number
so the doctor can call back at a more convenient time or you may be asked to call
back later when a doctor is available.
5. Do not ask for an emergency appointment
for non urgent problems like dry skin, minor colds or the pill.
6. Avoid calling the doctor at nights
or weekends unless it really is an emergency. Do not treat us as a walking pharmacy
when the chemist is closed. Keep your home first aid kit stocked with pain killers
and dressings and paracetamol for children's fevers.
7. Keep to the point when talking
to the doctor and do not save your most pressing problem until last. All doctors
dread a "by the way" as a patient is about to leave.
8. Try not to be rude to anyone working
at the surgery. Do not take problems out on the receptionist - it is probably
not their fault.
9. Violence or aggressive behaviour to the doctors or
staff will not be tolerated. If the problem persists you will be asked to leave
the premises and the Police will be called. You may then be refused treatment
at the surgery.
